Living away from home presents new challenges. The importance of community for foreigners is high —it provides access to valuable knowledge, useful information, and support. As foreigners, it’s important to navigate life in a way that avoids the common pitfalls.

Fellow compatriots can be an invaluable resource, helping you learn how to use the city’s services, like supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, and transportation systems, which are often quite different. Understanding the train system, for example, can save a lot of hassle.

Being connected to your community is especially valuable when living abroad. Long work hours can lead to isolation, which is why it’s important to make time for social events like barbecues, soccer games, or meetups organized by local associations.
